All about Blue Lotus

Introducing the Blue Lotus Flower - aka The Flower of Intuition

I was first introduced to the blue lotus flower by a local shamanic practitioner. During a beautiful ceremony, she invited us to inhale the smoke. The flowers were a striking colour and indeed the smoke gave me a gentle euphoria and heightened my sense of awareness of the magic unfolding around me in that moment.

Later, I learned that blue lotus is referred to as ‘the Flower of Intuition.’ A powerhouse of nutrients and antioxidants, the flower was revered by many ancient civilisations (Egyptian, Syrian, and Thai). Often smoked in ceremonial pipes, it is also brewed as a magical tea or wine, and used in perfumes and medicines.

Historical myths and legends are well deserved. Blue Lotus does have psychoactive and aphrodisiac properties. Depending on what that you seek, it can offer instant relaxation, help you into dream states, lead to lucid dreaming and journeying, tap into higher knowledge, and stimulate creative and intuitive kundalini energy.

I offer this beautiful, sacred plant in some of my ceremonies, either to smoke or in teas, to create a deeper connection. The plant brings a positive, supportive energy to the group, which helps with collective healing. The group strengthens each other’s intentions, aspirations and spiritual energy. This ritual dates back to ancient Egyptian times where the flower was used to create a pathway to enlightenment and connection to the divine. Tutan Khamun was packed in his tomb with blue lotus flowers. It is also the official flower of the Sun God, Ra.

For me, blue lotus opens my heart and mind and helps me to gain a deeper introspection. When I need to confront and release myself from habits and behaviours that are holding me back such as negative self-talk, I find that blue lotus guides me to self-acceptance and peace.
